Biography of

Joseph H. & Mary (Cramer) Hoy

Joseph H. Hoy was born January 13, 1856, son of Albert and Mary Hoy,

in Ferguson township on what is now known as the Strouse farm between

Pine Grove Mills and State College.

Mary E. Hoy, our other subject, was born August 25, 1857 and was the daughter of

John and Christiana Cramer of near Baileyville, Pa., Mrs. Hoy being born near

Pine Hall on what is now known as the Markle farm.

Joseph H. Hoy as a boy attended school at Oak Grove and as a young man

later working on his father's farm until 1880 when he was married to Mary E. Cramer

and lived on the old Hoy farm and Gray farm until 1897 when he purchased the

Fye farm and lived there 12 years or until 1909.

The same year he discontinued farming and moved to State College

and for the following eight years was engaged in the dairy business,

or until 1917. In 1933 he built the splendid home at 833 West College Ave.,

in which he and Mrs. Hoy have since resided.

He did butchering for Ezra Tressler and H. P.
Houser for a number of years. after which he retired from active work

and he and his good wife have lived and enjoyed a large degree of good

health in the years since in their splendid home on West College Ave.

Mr. and Mrs. Hoy have for many years been active in the Lutheran Church

at Pine Hall, and enjoy the love and respect of all who know them.

They are a very remarkable couple in many ways.

Mr. and Mrs. Hoy are both more than 83 years of age and have the

distinction of being the second oldest living couple in Centre County.

Their diamond anniversary was observed at their fine home on West College Ave.,
State College, Pa., Monday, January 22. 1940,

on which occasion they received the felicitations and good wishes

of about 50 relatives and friends who had gathered at the home

to extend their congratulations on the occasion of their sixtieth wedding anniversary.

At the present writing Mr. and Mrs. Hoy are both enjoying good health,

and best of all the normal use of all their mental faculties, including sight,

which is very remarkable for two persons of their ages.

Time seems to have dealt kindly with them. So we leave them in the sunset of their life,

complacently enjoying the remaining years of their well spent life.
