Obituary

Liddy "Jeannie"

von Trutzschler

Artist and former Poway resident Liddy Jean von Trutzschler died Oct. 17, 2007 at the age of 76. Born in Hollywood, California, she was the daughter of Mildred (nee: Hoy) and Baron Wolff Erhardt Anton George von Trutzschler, a popular San Francisco artist and author known as "Wolo," who died in 1989. She married in 1948 after graduating from Kearny High School in San Diego.

Known at "Jeannie," Ms. von Trutzschler lived in Poway for 15 years before moving to Hamilton, Montana, in search of a simpler life in the Bitterroot Valley. That simpler life meant no phone, television, radio or computer.

All her correspondence was through "snail mail."

In 1980, while serving as a missionary in Brazil, she illustrated the New Testament. Many of the poems and stories she wrote were inspired by children. Although she is best known for her paintings and work as a seamstress, Ms. von Trutzschler will be remembered for her love of Jesus, the Bible and the strong convictions she held, along with her sense of humor, independent nature, creativity and generosity. Despite her meager income, she donated to Spectrum, Olive Tree, World Vision and Vision Beyond Borders.

Survivors include her son, Donald Morton of Rancho Santa Fe; her daughters, Alice Gannaway of Anaheim and Mindy Hagen of Poway; her former husband, James F. Morton of Las Vegas, Nevada; her brother, E.G. "Pastor Von" von Trutzschler of San Diego; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services were held October 22 at Greenwood Memorial Park in San Diego.
