Mrs. Mary Alice Barker

 

Mrs. Mary Alice Barker, 88, of 409 Independence avenue,

died at 11:45pm Wednesday after an extended illness

of pernicious anemia. She had been bedfast the last several weeks.

 

 Born at Naperville, Illinois, Oct. 19, 1857, daughter of Charles and Susannah Hoy Rickert, she came to Waterloo with her parents in 1871. Here she was married October 8, 1896, to Thomas Barker,  who was for many years a Midwestern horse dealer, headquartering at Waterloo. Before her marriage, she attended normal school at Valparaiso, Ind., and for several years taught schools, including one at Raymond, Iowa.

Her husband preceded her in death December 30, 1930.

 

Mrs. Barker was a member of First Evangelical church and

Women's Christian Temperance Union. Surviving are one sister,

Mrs. Ida Hallman, Hot Springs, Arkansas; nice nieces and

three nephews; three brothers: Wellington, Reuben, and

Henry Rickert; and two sisters, Amanda and Sarah

preceded her in death. Funeral serviced will be

at 2pm Saturday in O'Keefe & Towne Funeral home with

Rev. J. S. Deedrick, pastor of First Evangelical church, officiating.

 Burial will be in Fairview cemetery.
