 William George Hoy

 

 

Funeral services for William Hoy, who passed away last Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in the Savanna City hospital, were held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon in the Argo M. C. Church with the pastor, Rev. Nesmith officiating. A male quintet consisting of E. O. Hommer, Joe Wilt, George and Al St. Ores of Thomson sang "This Beautiful Land, When My Soul Resides Home, and Resting Now." They were accompanied by Harriett Smith. Pallbearers were George Mott, Fred Doden, Robert Coon, Frank Holman Sr., Earl Holman and Joe McGinnis. Burial was made in the Argo Cemetery.

 

William Hoy was born in Jo Daviess County March 28, 1874 and in the summer of 1897 was united in marriage with Miss Beulah Frederick at Mt. Carroll. They engaged in farming, which they followed until the death of Mrs. Hoy, September 1, 1922. Since that time, Mr. Hoy had made his home with his sons. Several years ago, he united with the Christian church in Thomson.

He is survived by three sons, John of Argo, Clem of Thomson, and Pierce of South Bend, Indiana, and four brothers, James, Reuben, and Cyrus Hoy of Charles City, Illinois and Bert of Montana, a sister, Mrs. Hattie Johnson of Stockton. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a sister.
