James Merriman

The memorial service for James F. "Jim" Merriman, 49, of Fremont will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at The Presbyterian Church. He died Sunday, July 10, 2005, at his home.

He was born April 17, 1956, in Sioux City, Iowa. He lived in South Sioux City, Dunlap, Iowa, and Logan, Iowa. He graduated from Logan-Magnolia High School in 1975. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in the Philippines and Washington D.C. After discharge, he attended Midland Lutheran College and earned a degree in respiratory therapy. He was employed by Fremont Area Medical Center for the past 25 years. He married Teresa Rohrs on Sept. 10, 1982, in Lincoln.

He was a member of The Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and a committee chairman for the Christian education and building and property committees. He was the grillmaster and head cook for the Presbyterian youth club for eight years. He also was a member of the Fremont Tennis Association, Robinhood Archery Club, Nebraska Traditional Archers, Fort Atkinson Muzzle Loaders and Pheasants Forever.

Survivors include: his wife, Teri; three daughters, Courtney Merriman, attending the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Meghan Merriman of Fremont, and Jamie (and husband, Ryan) VonSossan of Elk Grove, California; his parents, Bud and Katie Merriman of Fayetteville, Arkansas; two sisters, Janene Ulmer, and Mary (and husband, Tom) Mathias all of Fayetteville; three brothers, Larry (and wife, Sarah) Merriman of Lincoln, Mike (and wife, Robyn) Merriman of Denver, Colorado, and Cork (and wife, Vicki) Merriman of Sioux City, Iowa.

The Reverend Ray Stewart will officiate Saturday's service. There will be no visitation. Memorials have been established to Fremont Area Medical Center Hospice and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
