Obituary ~ Vogel
Margaret Maria Barbara Veeh Vogel, daughter of the late George Veeh and Margaret Kistner, was born August 23, 1886 in Mound Township, Phillips County Kansas. She was received as a child of God through Holy Baptism on November 7, 1886 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Stuttgart, Kansas. She was confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran faith on April 22, 1900 at Emmanuel Lutheran. On January 29, 1908, she was united in Holy Matrimony to John H. Vogel. God gave this union the blessing of 9 children, 4 daughters and 5 sons. Following her marriage she lived in Stuttgart until 1961 when she and her husband moved to Phillipsburg. In January of this year, they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Her health required her to be hospitalized a number of times in the first four months of 1968. On April 27 she entered the Phillips county hospital the last time. It was here on Monday evening, July 15, that the Lord came to take her soul home to Himself. She had reached the age of 81 years, 10 months and 22 days. She was preceded in death by one son, Edgar in 1961. She leaves to mourn her death, her husband, John; 4 daughters, Edna, (Mrs. Orville) Veeh of Hemet, California, Lula (Mrs. John) Evans of Topeka, Kansas, Leona (Mrs. Leland) Tannahill of Fort Madison, Iowa, Margaret (Mrs. Joseph) Martin of Fullerton, California; 4 sons, Richard of Topeka, Kansas, Howard of Phillipsburg, John of Lawrence, Kansas, Edwin of Topeka, Kansas; two sisters, Mrs. Martha Bethke of Fremont, Nebraska, Mrs. Clara Kogler of Orange, California; 1 brother, August Veeh of Phillipsburg; 20 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Memorial services were held Thursday morning, July 18 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Stuttgart, Kansas, with the Rev. Richard Buchholz officiating. Hymns were sung by soloist, Allen Finkbeiner and the congregation accompanied by Mrs. John Beim. Casket bearers were Doug Vogel, Alvin Veeh, Alvin Vogel, Arnold Vogel, John Kistner and Ray Dieckhoff. Interment was in Emanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Stuttgart, Kansas.

John Heinrich Vogel, son of Johann Leonhard and Elizabeth Schoeller Vogel, was born in Phillips county, Kansas, June 29, 1879, and departed this life at the Phillips County Hospital Long Term Care Unit, January 28, 1975, having attained the age of 95 years, 6 months, and 30 days. He was a retired farmer and businessman of the Stuttgart area. John was baptized into the Christian faith on July 27, 1879, in what was to become the Emmanuel Lutheran church, Stuttgart, Kansas. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on April 9, 1893, at Emmanuel Lutheran church. He was a life long member of the Emmanuel Lutheran congregation of Stuttgart, Kansas, though because of his age and convenience he attended the Zion Lutheran church in Phillipsburg in his later years. On January 29, 1908, he was united in marriage with Margaretha Veeh at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Stuttgart, Kansas. To this union nine children were born. John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son, Edgar, three brothers and one sister, Margaret Kistner. He leaves to mourn his passing, four daughters; Edna (Mrs. Orville) Veeh, Hemet, California; Lula (Mrs. John) Evans, Topeka, Kansas; Leona (Mrs. Leland) Tannahill, Ft. Madison, Iowa; and Margaret (Mrs. Joseph) Martin, Fullerton, California. Four sons; Richard and his wife, Thelma and Edwin and his wife, Ruth, Topeka, Kansas; Howard and his wife, Marie, Phillipsburg, Kansas, and John and his wife, Irene, Lawrence, Kansas. He also leaves one sister, Martha, (Mrs. Richard) Veeh, Santa Ana, California, and one brother, Leonhard, Phillipsburg, Kansas. He leaves 20 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and other relatives, friends and acquaintances. Funeral services were held at the Emmanuel Lutheran church, Stuttgart, Kansas, Saturday, February 1, 1975 with the Rev. Duane Levin officiating. Hymns were sung by Alvin Veeh and Norman Merklein and by the congregation with Mrs. Marene Levin as organist. Casket bearers were Dave Rankin, Donald Tannahill, Douglas Vogel, Tom Veeh, Arnold Vogel and Alvin Vogel. Burial was in the Emmanuel Lutheran church cemetery, Stuttgart, Kansas, to await the resurrection.
