Johann George Goering passed away last Saturday, After a long illness.  He was a resident of this community for many years and highly respected citizen

 

Johann George Goering passed away at his home in Johnson at

7:50 o'clock last Saturday evening. The deceased had been in

failing health for several years. His first illness dates back about

two years and since the first attack he has gradually been failing.

His condition, however, first became alarming ten weeks ago,

since which time he had been bedfast. He passed peacefully

away, having attained the age of 73 years, 4 months and 13 days.

 

Johann George Goering, a pioneer resident of Johnson county,

Nebraska, was born April 1st, 1854 in Edenkben, Rheinphals,

Bavaria, Germany. In 1865 as a boy he came to the United States

with his parents, brothers and sisters and the family located on

a farm near Peru, Illinois. On April 19th, 1847 he was confirmed

in Hollowayville, Illinois, in the Christian faith, to which he

remained true to his end. He was married to Miss Katharina

Wunder on January 25th, 1877. To this union nine children were

born, two sons, John and George preceded him in death.

 

After his marriage he engaged in farming for two years in Illinois.

Then the young couple moved west locating on a farm 4 and a half

miles north-west of Johnson, Nebraska. Here they lived one year

then moving on a farm 5 miles north-west of Johnson, where the

deceased resided until December 1915, when he retired to

Johnson, where he spent the eve of his life.

 

On January 25th of this year the deceased and his faithful wife

by God's grace were permitted to celebrate their golden

wedding, an event not many married people are granted to observe.

 

He is survived by his faithful wife, Mrs. Katharina Goering, three

sons, Henry of Cook, Nebraska; Fred and Louis of Johnson,

four daughters, Mrs. Emma Hauberg, Mrs. Elizabeth Holtgrewe,

Mrs. Mathilda Birkmann and Miss Katie Goering, all of Johnson;

18 grandchildren; one brother, Phillip Goering, Platte Center,

Nebraska, many other relatives and a host of friends.

 

Funeral services were conducted by Reverend Duensing of the

Evangelical church of Nebraska City, assisted by a mixed

quartet from the Evangelical church of Talmage, who sang

several of the deceased favorite songs. Interment was in the

Johnson Cemetery.

Mrs. Katharina Goering Reached

end of long life and her passing is

mourned by relatives and many

friends - Funeral at Johnson.

 

 

Mrs. Katharina Goering passed peacefully away on the morning of

Sunday January 21, at her home in Johnson, having attained the

age of 74 years, 8 months and one day. Mrs. Goering had been in

failing health for about a year, but her condition was not considered

serious until about ten days before death came. Everything humanly

possible was done to nurse her back to health but her days were

numbered and she passed into eternal rest.

 

Katharina Wunder was born May 20, 1859 in Hollowayville,

Illinois, where she was baptized and confirmed in the Christian

faith to which she remained true to the end.

 

On January 25, 1877 she was united in marriage to George

Goering who preceded her in death August 13, 1927. This

union was blessed with nine children, two of whom, John and

George preceded her in death.

 

After their marriage the young couple engaged in farming in

Illinois for two years. Then they moved to Nebraska, locating on

a farm four and one-half miles northwest of Johnson, where they

lived one year, then moving to a farm five miles northwest of

Johnson. In December 1915, they retired and moved to
Johnson where she spent the remainder of her life.

 

On January 25, 1927 they were privileged to celebrate their

golden wedding anniversary with their children and grandchildren.

 

Mrs. Goering's life was a beautiful example of the traits of

true womanhood. She was faithful to all duties of motherhood

and the home maker kindly and sympathetic in her relations

with others and her long life was filled with good works that

live after her.

 

She leaves to mourn her passing, three sons, Henry of Cook;

Fred of Talmage and Louie of Johnson, and four daughters;

Mrs. Emma Hauberg, Mrs. Elizabeth Holtgrewe, Mrs. Matilda

Birkman and Miss Katharina, all of Johnson, besides eighteen

grandchildren, one grandson, Herbert Goering having

preceded her in death; four great-grandchildren

and other relatives.

 

Short funeral services were conducted at the home Wednesday

afternoon by Reverend Duerising of Nebraska City, followed

by services at the Johnson M. E. church which were attended

by a large number of friends and relatives. A quartet composed

of Mrs. Roy Casey, Mrs. J. S. Wilson, Raymond Klechel and

John Blinde sang "There'll Be No Tears In Paradise,"

"Haven of Rest" and "Rest Thou Beloved."

Piano accompaniments were played by Mrs. Raymond Kiechel.

 

Pallbearers were William H. Ernst, William Broady, William L. Hahn,

Dick Behrman, Fred W. Holtgrewe and William H. Hahn.

Interment was made in the Johnson cemetery.
