Obituary Mrs. Fred H. Holtgrewe
Elizabeth Marie Goering, daughter of George and Katharina Wunder Goering, was born northwest of Johnson, September 1, 1889, one of nine children.
She was christened May 18, 1890 by Reverend S. Holdgraf and confirmed April 5, 1903 at the Evangelical church in Johnson by Reverend Arthur Graber.
She received her schooling in the East Beulah School District No. 60. After her school days she helped care for her parents.
June 17, 1914, she was united in marriage with Fred H. Holtgrewe. All of their married life was spent in Johnson.
She was a member of the Johnson Methodist church and WSCS.
She was a director of the Johnson Cemetery Association and a long time member of the Cemetery Auxiliary, servicing as president for several years and for 20 years was treasurer.
In December of 1973, she and her husband entered the Good Samaritan Home in Auburn. Mr. Holtgrewe passed away October 16, 1975. She passed away December 26, 1976.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and two sisters.
She leaves to mourn her passing one sister, Mrs. Edward Birkmann of Lee Summit, Missouri, a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Funeral services were held December 29 at the Methodist church in Johnson, conducted by Reverend Betty Jackson and Reverend Ed Jackson. Orvin Oestmann was soloist and Mrs. Robert Hogrefe was organist.
Pallbearers were Roger Broady, Terry Broady, Rex Holtgrewe, Dick Holtgrewe, Mark Boellstorff and Robert Boellstorff. Ina Collman and Mary Nichols were in charge of flowers.
Burial was in the Johnson cemetery.

Obituary Fred H. Holtgrewe
Fred Henry Holtgrewe, son o Herman and Ann Birkman Holtgrewe, was born at Casco, Missouri, on January 8, 1888, one of seven children.
In 1892 he moved with his parents to Talmage. In 1893 they moved to the Johnson community.
He was baptized January 19, 1888 at Casco, Missouri, and was confirmed at Zion Evangelical church at Talmage by Reverend Arthur Graber. He transferred his membership to the Johnson Methodist church in 1951.
On June 17, 1914, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Goering at the home of her parents by Reverend C. Deubler.
Fred worked for a dray line and in a store in Johnson for several years, then became associated with the First National Bank in 1913, until his retirement in 1952. He was vice-president and cashier of the bank for some time.
Mr. Holtgrewe was a member of the Johnson Chamber of Commerce and Sportsman club and was secretary of both for many years. He was a member of the Johnson Fire Department and secretary-treasurer of the Johnson Methodist church and town board.
Fred had been in failing health several years. He stayed at the Nemaha County Good Samaritan Nursing Home and passed away at the Nemaha County Hospital on October 16, 1975, having reached the age of 87 years, nine months and eight days.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.
Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Elizabeth; a number of nieces and nephews; other relatives, and many friends.
Funeral services were held October 20 at the Johnson Methodist church, conducted by Reverend John Meyer. Orvin Oestmann was soloist and Mrs. Gary Oxley was organist.
Pallbearers were Roger Broady, Terry Broady, Rex Holtgrewe, Ted Holtgrewe, Bob Boellstorff and Mark Boellstorff. Mary Nichols and Mrs. Lloyd Nichols were in charge of flowers.
Burial was in the Johnson cemetery.
