Elizabeth Fink 86th Birthday

Elizabeth Fink

Elizabeth M. Fink, Logan was born September 4, 1895 in sod home on a farm North of Logan. She passed away June 9, 1996 at Logan Manor in Logan, at the age of 100.

Elizabeth was one of 10 children, seven girls and three boys born to Henry and Margaret (Schoeller) Schurz, all of whom have preceded her in death.

Elizabeth was baptized September 29, 1895 and confirmed on March 27, 1910 in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, located northeast of Logan. She attended country school and graduated from the eighth grade at Pleasant Hill.

On April 30, 1919, she was united in marriage to Nick Fink. They celebrated their 50th anniversary with an open house at the city building in Logan in 1969. Nick preceded her in death on February 3, 1972.

Elizabeth opened her heart and home to many strangers who needed a place to live, boarding teachers and giving old field workers a place to call home.

Her world encompassed World War I and World War II and she went from hitching up a team of horses to wearing seat belts.

Elizabeth was a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Stuttgart, where she remained a devout follower of the Lutheran faith.

Her hobbies were gardening, quilting, tatting, crocheting and a variety of stitchery. She quilted for many people from all over the county and taught a great niece and great-great niece to tat. her quilting is on display at the Logan Library.

A highlight of this past year, her 100th year, was a pre-birthday visit from five nieces, including reuniting with two nieces; Louise Keyack from Arizona and Gayle Satterblom from California, whom she had not seen in many years. In September she was honored by many friends at an open house for her 100th birthday. At the end of the day she asked three nieces "where will the party be next year?"

Until about three weeks ago she resided in her home which was built by her husband, Nick in 1939.

Survivors include Nieces, Nephews and a host of friends, including her dear friends, Johnnie and Waunie Parsons, who through their loving care, enabled her to maintain an independent life style which was very important to her. Her humor, wit and positive attitude will be greatly missed.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 12 at 2 p. m. in the Emannuel Lutheran Church, Stuttgart, with Pastor Gerald Buss, officiating. Prayer service was held Tuesday, June 11 at 7 p.m. with Pastor Joel Hiesterman officiating.

The congregation sang "How Great Thou Art" and "This Is My Father's World" accompanied by Phyllis Merklein, organist.

Casket bearers were: Max Donahey, A. G. Cummings, Blake Hemler, Johnny Parsons, Norman Kellerman and Donald Van Roekel.

Interment was in Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Stuttgart. Arrangements were handled by Logan Funeral Home, Logan.
