Frederick Paul Schick was born in Phillips County on July 17, 1898, the son of Jacob and Mary Strodtbeck Schick. After a hospital Chaplain's prayer, he peacefully departed this life on September 22, 1975 at the Hadley Regional Medical Center in Hays at the age of 77.

Fred grew to manhood in the Logan area. He was baptized into the Christian community of the Lutheran Church at an early age and reaffirmed his faith through Confirmation in the St. Peter's Lutheran Church on March 16, 1913.

On November 12, 1923 he was united in marriage to Martha Boethin. To this union two sons, Alvin and Max, were born. His wife Martha passed away on February of 1928.

On December 16, 1933 he was united in marriage to Evelyn Louise Bailey at Phillipsburg. To this union nine children were born: Coleman, Pat, Becky, LaVon, Carol, Dixie, Lynn, Lila and Robin.

Fred was a farmer for many years until moving into the Logan community. He was a man who loved all those he came in contact with; always waving and speaking to all he met. He had a special fondness for children and was often involved in the repair of a bicycle or sled for those who asked. His children and grandchildren were a source of constant joy for him and he spent many hours playing with them. In addition to his parents and his first wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers: John, Albert, Carl and Richard.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Louise of the home in Logan; five sons: Alvin and Max, both of Phillipsburg; Coleman of Chicago, Illinois; LaVon of Cheney, Kansas; and Robin of Logan. He is also survived by six daughters: Pat Kruger of Flannigan, Illinois; Becky Bean of Abilene, Kansas; Carol Mullen and Dixie Geary, both of Lebo, Kansas; Lynn Calhoon of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; and Lila Hamit of Hays; by twenty four grandchildren; two sisters: Pauline Hickman of Logan and Kate Fish of Lafayette, Colorado; and by many other relatives and a host of friends.
