John William Bohling

 

His parents were Herman and Anna (Rohrs) Bohling.
was born near Rohrs, Ne. one of 10 children.
He was baptized Nov. 14, 1892 by  Reverend Theodore Streng and confirmed at St. Paul Hickory Grove Lutheran Church by Reverend Streng. on March 31, 1912. He received his schooling at Rohrs School.
He married Dec. 8, 1921 to Mary K. Rogge at Palmer, KS. Five children were born to this marriage.
He was a member of St. Paul Hickory Grove Lutheran church

and served on the council for nine years.
In June of 1968 they moved into Auburn, NE.
He passed away at the Auburn, Ne. Hospital having reached the age of 84 years, one months and 9 days.
Preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and four sisters.
Surviving are his wife, Mary K. of Auburn; son, Vern of Lincoln four daughters, Mrs. Evert Boeck of Gaylord, Kansas. Mrs. Richard Plager of Humboldt, Nebraska,  Mrs. Mervin Geyer of Humboldt, Nebraska, and Mrs. Eiber Alberts of Auburn. 13 grandchildren. 13 great-grandchildren. two sisters-in-law, Dora and August Bohling, two brothers-in-law, Paul Kiender, and William Fintel.
Funeral services were held Dec. 7. at St. Paul Lutheran Church (Hickory Grove) rural Auburn, Nebraska. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mary Katharine Bohling

 

Mary Katharine Rogge, daughter of August and Sophia Hilmer Rogge, was born May 21, 1902 in Palmer, Kansas.

One of seven children, she attended Dupree grade school and German Parochial school, both of Palmer. Mary was baptized into the Lutheran faith June 1, 1902 and confirmed June 11, 1916.

Mary was married to John William Bohling, December 8, 1921

in Palmer. Five children were born to this marriage.

John died December 5, 1981.

After their marriage, the Bohlings made their home near Auburn. Mary was a homemaker and employed at the local sewing factory for a few years. She was a member of St. Paul Hickory Grove Lutheran Church over 70 years,except for a couple of years when they lived near and were

members of Martin Luther Lutheran Church near Auburn.

She was a member of Hickory Grove women's E. L. C. A. and of the Nemaha County Hospital Auxiliary. She and her husband enjoyed traveling.

When Mary's health had begun to fail she lived with her daughter and son-in-law. Marlene and Eiber Alberts for a couple of years. October 31, 1990, she became a resident of the Nemaha County Good Samaritan Center in Auburn.

It was there that she died September 4, 1995, having reached the age of 93 years, three months and 15 days.

She was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers and one sister.

Surviving are her children and their spouses. Vern Bohling, Omaha, Berniece Boeck, Gaylord, Kansas, Vera Plager and Wilma Geyer, Humboldt, and Marlene Alberts, Auburn; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a sister, Clara Carnes of Auburn; brother Henry Rogge, Torrance, California, and Dora Bohling, Auburn; other relatives and friends.

Services were held September 7 at St. Paul Hickory Grove Lutheran Church near Auburn, conducted by Pastor Howard Tollefsnad.

Pallbearers were Gale Bohling, Gene Plager, Tim Alberts, John Bohling, Lynn Geyer and Gary Gerstenkorn, grandsons.

Granddaughters, Cheryl Beldin, Kristin Gerstenkorn, Jana Anderson, Becky Rippe, Connie Francis, Susan Klanccky,Beth Geyer and Mary Lynn Wininger assisted with flowers.

Deanne Gerking was organist and Gerald Carnes, Ronald Carnes

and Kenneth Carnes, nephews were vocalists.

Interment was in the church cemetery.

Dora M. Bohling

 

Dorothea Maria Hogrefe, daughter of F. Whilhelm and Ida

Hockemeyer Hogrefe, was born September 11, 1894 on a farm in the

Hickory Grove community near Auburn.

 

One of seven children, she was baptized October 25, 1894 at

Saint Paul (Hickory Grove) Lutheran Church and confirmed
April 11, 1909 at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Avery, Oklahoma.

 

As a young child, Dora moved with her parents to Oklahoma. She

received her education at a rural school near Avery. As a young woman

in Avery, Dora picked cotton with her parents. At the age of 17, she

returned to Nemaha County with her parents.

 

May 4, 1916 she married Ernest F. C. Bohling at Saint Paul

(Hickory Grove) Lutheran Church. To this union seven children

were born. Dora and Ernest farmed in Nemaha County. When they

retired from farming, the Bohlings moved to Auburn. Her husband

Ernest died June 25, 1963.

 

Dora was an active member of Saint Paul (Hickory Grove) Lutheran

Church. She was also a member of Ladies Aid and later of the Ruth

Naomi Circle of the American Lutheran Church Women.

 

As her health began to fail, she was admitted to the Good Samaritan

Center in Auburn in April of 1991. It was there, that she died on

July 27, 1997, having reached the age of 102 years, 10 months and

16 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband;

one son, Rudolph, one daughter, Dorothy Kettelhut;

 four brothers and two sisters.

 

Surviving are five children, Viola Winter of Linn, Kansas,

Alvin Kuhlmann of Lebanon, Kansas, Sophie Rizor of Tecumseh,

Hulda Zier of Lincoln and Richard Bohling of Johnson;

27 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren;

11 great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Betty Bohling of Johnson,

sister-in-law, Louise Hogrefe Bohling of Johnson;

other relatives and many friends.

 

Services were held July 30 at Saint Paul (Hickory Grove) Lutheran Church conducted by Reverend Edith Bickford.

 

Pallbearers were Dave Kettelhut, James Rizor, Marvin Bohling,

Wesley Zier, Jr., Gailen Bohling, Dennis Zier and Reynold Schaaf,

grandsons.

 

Honorary pallbearers were Steve Kettelhut, Robbie Bohling, Keith

Bohling, Marlin Bohling, Lonny Bohling, Warren Kuhlmann and

Bradley Bohling.

 

Kathy Schaaf and Joyce Roesener assisted with flowers.

Susan Hogrefe was organist and Allyn Remmers, vocalist.

 

Interment was in the church cemetery.
