Obituary - Eickhoff

Mr. Eickhoff was born June 15, 1887, at Stuttgart, Kansas, to Fred Eickhoff and Lena Eltiste. He was baptized in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Stuttgart on July 27, 1887. His life was spent in Phillips County on the farm a short distance west of Phillipsburg. In 1968, he moved into the Prairie Haven Home, Kensington where he passed away on September 12, having reached the age of 82 years, 2 months, and 28 days.

August was married on February 26, 1933 to Frieda Schroeder. August was confirmed at Zion Lutheran (Belmont), Phillipsburg and was a member until his death.

August was preceded in death by his parents; 2  brothers, Fred and John; and 2 sisters, Mrs. George (Sophia) Stepper and Louise Eickhoff.

August is survived by one niece, Mrs. Lydia Harrison, Delevan, Washington; one nephew, Ervin Cy Stepper, Rexford, Kansas; and by one step-daughter, Mrs. Warren Sparks, Casper, Wyoming, and by a number of relatives and friends.

Memorial services were held Monday morning, September 15 at the Zion Lutheran church at 10 o'clock with Rev. Victor Andersen officiating.

Hymns were sung by Allen Finkbeiner, soloist, accompanied by Irene Hilbrink.

Casket bearers were John Ehm, William Ehm, Raymond Bohl, Albert Krause, August Krause and William Bredemeier.

Interment was at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Phillips County, Kansas.

Frieda Eickhoff

On March 18, 1892,Frieda Schroeder was born into the family of Reverend Edward Schroeder and Frida (nee) Honold.  She departed this life January 19, 1982, at the Phillips County Hospital, Phillipsburg at the age of 89.

After high school she attended Peru Teachers College, Peru, Nebraska, and taught for a number of years.

In 1917 she was graduated from Business College in Waco, Texas. Later she was a bank teller in San Antonio.

In 1923 her marriage to Paul Hummel took place in that city. He died in 1927. Four years later she married August Eickhoff of Phillipsburg, Kansas, who preceded her in death in 1975.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Pauline Sparks, Casper, Wyoming; four sisters, Mrs. Marie Hancock, Aurora, Colorado, Mrs. Lydia Riedel, Boulder, Colorado, Mrs. Claire S. McHugh and Mrs. Martha Albertson, both of Denver, Colorado, and two grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Friday, January 22, at 10 a.m. in Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Douglas Zurek and Pastor Dave Sites officiating. Luella Zillinger was organist for congregational singing.

Casket bearers were Bob Hodge, Cy Stepper, Arnold Ehm, Bill Ehm, Doyle Bohl and Gerald Bethke. Interment was in Zion Lutheran Cemetery.

We wish to extend our appreciation for the cards, flowers, memorial contributions, food brought in and other kind deeds at the time of our bereavement. Special thanks to the doctors and staff of the Phillips County Hospital and the staff of the Prairie Haven Rest Home for their tender loving care of our loved one. Your thoughtfulness will always be remembered.
