State Tourney Has Serious Accident

Timothy P. Gobber, 21 of Elk Creek was killed when the car in which he was a passenger crashed about 3:40 a.m., approximately 3 ½ miles east of Syracuse. Ryan Eitzmann 38, of Johnson was identified by the Nebraska State Patrol as the driver.

 

Eitzmann was reported in good condition at Syracuse Community Hospital later Friday.

 

The patrol report said the car struck a bridge, flipped on its side and came to rest in a ditch on the north side.

 

 

 

 

Timothy Paul Gobber

Timothy Paul Gobber, son of Arnold P. and Orva Jean Boden Gobber, was born at Auburn, Nebraska February 25, 1964. He was one of 3 children born to this marriage.

Tim was baptized in infancy at the Saint James Lutheran (Long Branch) Church by Reverend Robert Harrison and was confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at the same church as a young man by Reverend Roger Hoffman. He was to remain a member of this church the rest of his life.

Tim attended both grade and high school in Johnson. He was active in sports, lettering in both football and basketball, was named outstanding boy athlete his senior year, and was the homecoming king. Since graduating from high school he had worked on farms and in the construction business with his father. He was a member of the Johnson Jaycees and the JBAC.

He was a lover of the outdoors and hunting and still took a great interest in sports. He had been to the state basketball tournament in Lincoln and was enroute home early Friday morning, March 8, 1985, when he was killed an an automobile accident that occurred on Highway 2 just east of Syracuse. He was 21 years and 11 days of age.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Paul Gobber.

He is survived by his parents, Arnold and Orva Jean Gobber of rural Elk Creek; his two sisters, Kay and husband Thomas Heidzig, of Johnson, and Lori Sue and husband Randy Miller, of Tecumseh, two nieces, Michelle and Jennifer Heidzig; grandparents, Helen Gobber of Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Boden of Nemaha; aunts and uncles, other relatives, and a great many friends.

Casket bearers: Ryan Eitzmann, Rich Michel, Jon Jenkins, Craig Rienken, Lloyd Buchmeier, Duane Volker, Terry Stutheit, and Rod Alexander. assisting with flowers: Janelle Wendelin, Debra Pugh, Susan Piper and Mary Michel. Organist Caroline Hahn.

Services held March 11, 1985 at St. James Lutheran Church, rural Humboldt, Nemaha, Nebraska, officiated clergy Reverend Roger Hoffman. Interment in the church cemetery.
