Helen W. Gobber

Helen Bohling Gobber, eldest daughter of Fred Bohling Jr. and

Elizabeth (Eltiste) Bohling was born November 3, 1909 north west

of Auburn, Nebraska. Helen was baptized November 14, 1909 at

St. Paul's (Hickory Grove) Lutheran Church rural Auburn, Nebraska

by Reverend Streng.

She received her elementary schooling at District 21 Linden School and graduated from Johnson High School with the class of 1927.

On May 24, 1928 Rev. Streng united her in marriage to Paul H. Gobber at the Hickory Grove Church. They established their home on a farm six miles east of Elk Creek, Nebraska where they lived 38 years. This marriage was blessed with one son and three daughters. Helen transferred her membership to St. James Lutheran Church where she remained a member the rest of her life. She was a faithful and active member of the church and had served as president of the Women's Organization, the Missionary Society as it was known at that time.

Mr. and Mrs. Gobber moved to Johnson, Nebraska May 1966 due

to the declining health of her husband. He died December 11, 1966.

After the death of her husband she worked for the Johnson - Brock

School lunch program. She later became a Care Staff member at the

Good Samaritan Center in Auburn for 12-1/2 years. After her

retirement she was an active member of the Johnson Senior Citizens

and held various positions of that organization. She enjoyed traveling,

playing cards, gardening and helping make quilts for Lutheran World Relief.

One of her wishes was fulfilled when she with her daughter Evelyn

Greenlee went to Germany in 1992, with the German Heritage Group

to visit the birthplace of her father and to visit the church where her '

husband's parents were married.

Her husband Paul, grandson Timothy, her parents and two sisters

Elsie Hosterman and Esther Goering, preceded her in death.

She is survived by her children Arnold and his wife Orva Jean of

Elk Creek, Nebraska; Evelyn and her husband Richard Greenlee of

Anacortes, Washington; Edith and her husband Roger Broady of

Auburn, Nebraska and Ruth and her husband Duane Wendelin of

Lincoln, Nebraska. Six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and

three step-great grandchildren. Sister Hilda and her husband Elmer

Adcock of Farragut, Iowa, nieces, nephews and other relatives and

many friends.
