Carl Schiller

Carl M. Schiller was born in Nassau, Württemberg, Germany, on July 22, 1886, the son of George and Margaret Glock Schiller.

He departed this life on June 1, 1976, at the Phillips County Hospital, Phillipsburg, having attained the age of 89 years, 10 months and 9 days.

As a young boy he came with his parents from Germany to America in 1896, where the family settled north of Logan. Carl grew to manhood in this area.

In 1933 he was united in marriage to Amanda Meyer at Lohman, Missouri. They made their home on the farm north of Logan where Carl was engaged in farming and the insurance business. In 1949 they moved into Logan, but still remained active in business.

Carl was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church. He was a long-time Board Member of the Logan Cooperative Association. He greatly enjoyed playing the organ in the later years of his life and was an avid fisherman.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Amanda, of the home in Logan, and many other relatives and friends.

Services were held Thursday, June 3, at 2 p.m. in St. Peter's Lutheran Church with Pastor Neil Ohlsen officiating.

Singers were Mrs. Dan Bushnell and Mrs. Carl Schick.

Casket bearers were: Donald Meyer, Milton Meyer, Robert Schiller, Herbert Schiller, Donald Peterson, and Johannes Schiller.

Burial was at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery.

Words cannot express the deep appreciation I have in my heart for all the thoughtful deeds given by you dear folks during Carl's illness and death.

The cards, beautiful flowers, the Lutheran ladies who served the dinner and all those who gave to the Memorial Fund will never be forgotten. May God richly bless you.

Obituary

Anna Christine Schiller nee Christensen was born November 8, 1897 in Thisted, Denmark. She received Holy Baptism shortly afterward. She was confirmed at the age of 14 years in the Lutheran church of the same place. In the spring of 1904, in company of her brother Theodore she came to this county, where she stayed with relatives in Hamilton county, Nebraska, for some time. She then went back to Philadelphia. In 1909 she came to Orleans, Nebraska, and a little later to Logan, Kansas. She was united in marriage to Carl M. Schiller September 4, 1912. To this union was born one girl who died in infancy. From this time on her health began to fail until she passed away May 24, 1932, at the age of 44 years, 6 months and 16 days. She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband, 5 brothers and one sister: Axel and Walborg of Denmark, Theodore of Beaver City, Nebraska, Holger of Orleans, Nebraska, John of Baldwin Park, California and Elvinius of Alma, Nebraska.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, May 26, at the home followed by services at the Lutheran church northeast of Logan, conducted by Rev. Schaff of Gaylord. Services at the church were conducted by Rev. C. Schaff. Interment was in the Lutheran church cemetery.

Logan Woman Dies

Amanda Meyer Schiller passed away January 4, 1977 at the age of 86.

 She was born May 10, 1890 at Athol, Kansas to

William and Caroline Beckmann Meyer.

She grew to womanhood in Athol and went to public schools.  She was brought up in the Lutheran Faith having been baptized on June 1, 1890

at Christ Lutheran Church, Gaylord, Kansas, and instructed and

confirmed on May 8, 1904 at the same Lutheran Church.

In June 4, 1933, she was united in marriage to Carl Schiller at Lohman, Missouri.  They made their home on a farm North of Logan where her late husband was engaged in farming and insurance business.

  They moved to Logan in 1949.

Amanda was an active member  of St. Peter's Lutheran Church

 and the Logan Senior Citizens Organization,

Preceding her in death were her parents and four brothers,

Oscar, William G., Edwin, and Paul.

She is survived by three brothers, Carl of Auburn, Nebraska,

 Julius of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Walter Meyer of LaHabra, California.  Two sisters Mrs. Floyd (Alma) Bacher of Greeley, Colorado,

 and Mrs. John (Lorena) McDevitt of Burbank, California.

 Two Sister-in-Laws, Mrs. Paul Meyer and Mrs. Edwin Meyer

 of Smith Center, Kansas.

Amanda will be sadly missed by her relatives and many friends.

Memorial services, January 8, 2 p.m. in the St, Peter's Lutheran Church with Pastor Neil Ohlsen officiating.  Special music was furnished by

 Bonnie Hansen with Mildred Lafferty as accompanist.

Casket bearers were Paul Bruning, Maynard Pflieger, Lyle Lafferty,

 Bill Veh, Ray Schick, and Art Ruff. 

Interment in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Logan Kansas.
