Obituary

Mrs. Henry C. Bohlken

 

 

Hermina E. Malpert, daughter of Herman and Gelka (Gerdes) Malpert, was born in Richardson county, January 14, 1891. She was one of nine children.

 

She was baptized April 19, 1891 by Rev. Ludwig Mueller at the St. James Lutheran church and confirmed April 16, 1905 by Rev. J. H. Dirks at St. John's church. She was a member of the latter the rest of her life and was a charter member of the missionary society.

 

While but a small child her parents moved into Nemaha county in the area near the Stone Church. She attended rural school District 41 and later at the Bratton Union School.

 

May 10, 1911 she was married to Henry C. Bohlken. Three children, Floyd, Avis and Mildred were born to this union. Mr. and Mrs. Bohlken spent all of their married life in the community around the Stone Church, having built their present home in 1914.

 

Mrs. Bohlken was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.

 

She is survived by her husband, Henry C. Bohlken, and son, Floyd of near Auburn; daughter, Mrs. Jack Thrift of Rosemead, California, and Mrs. Charles Gridley of Omaha. She is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Stanley Phillips of Humboldt, Mrs. John Kreienhop of Johnson, and Mrs. William Leech of Humboldt, many other relatives and friends.

 

Mrs. Bohlken has been in falling health for the past three years. Last March she entered a nursing home in Omaha. She passed away November 27, 1960, having reached the age of 69 years, 10 months and 13 days.

 

Funeral services were held on November 30 at St. John's Lutheran church, conducted by Rev. C. J. Deithloff. A quartette composed of Alvin Stover, Orville Gerdes, Mrs. H.J. Remmers and Mrs. Milburn Gerdes sang two selections, with Mrs. C. J. Deithloff as accompanist.

 

Pallbearers were Irvin Gerdes, Alvin Malpert, Myron Leech, Alton Eltiste, Hermann Kreienhop and LaVern Oestmann. Mrs. Herbert Gerdes and Mrs. LaVern Gerdes were in charge of flowers.

 

Burial was in St. John's cemetery with Casey's in charge of arrangements.
