Obituary

 George Adam Zillinger

George Adam Zillinger was born October 23, 1884, to the

late Phillip and Margaretha (nee: Hetzel) Zillinger on his

parents homestead in a dugout near Stuttgart, Kansas, and

passed away at the Phillips County Hospital at 2:15 A.M.

May 2, 1965 having reached the age of 80 years,

6 months and 9 days.

In 1891 his parents and family moved to a farm four and

one-half miles northwest of Speed. While living on this farm,

his father met with a fatal accident when Adam was

fourteen years old. He being the eldest son, assumed the

responsibilities and duties of his father.

On November 23, 1884, he was received into the Church of

the Redeemed through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism.

As a child he was instructed in the Christian faith. On May

29, 1898 he was confirmed in the Lutheran Church holding

his membership in the Zion Congregation until his

marriage at which time he transferred his membership to

the St. Peter's Church of Logan. He was a faithful member

attending church whenever his health permitted. He was

active in the affairs of the church serving on the Church

Council for nineteen years.

On October 20, 1909, he was united in Holy Matrimony to

Anna E. Fritsch at the Wolf Creek St. Peter's Church. This

union was blessed with seven children, three sons and four

daughters. He was a faithful and loving father. He was a

successful livestock farmer and very interested in farm

affairs. He also served on the school board for

 twenty-seven years.

Mr. and Mrs. Zillinger retired from the farm and moved

to Logan November 20, 1949, where they have enjoyed

their many friends and neighbors.

Mrs. and Mrs. Zillinger were permitted, by the Grace of God,

to celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary on

October 20, 1929. This was a joyous day for them and

their family. They were blessed with five more years,

six months and twelve days of wedded companionship.

He leaves to survive him his loving and faithful wife, Anna,

of the home. His sons, Herman and wife, Selma, of

Phillipsburg; Edward and wife, Irene, of Logan; and

Arnold and wife, Dorothy, of Logan.

His daughters, Ida and husband, Harold Forssberg, of Logan;

Marie Perkins of Kirwin; Hilda and husband, Harold Grantz,

of Kirtland, New Mexico; and Clara and husband, James Cox,

of Newport, California. Twenty-one grandchildren and four

great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Paul of Stockton and

Philip of Phillipsburg. Three sisters, Marie Ebner of

Phillipsburg, Margaret Bruning of Speed, and Dorothy

Schauer of Almena.

His parents, one sister, one brother, three brother-in-law,

one son-in-law, one grandson and one niece, preceded him

in death.

Funeral Services were conducted Tuesday, May 4, 1965

at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Logan with Rev. Louis

Shim officiating. The organist was Mrs. Fred Miller. She

accompanied Mrs. Harold Brooks and Mrs. Dee Bushnell

who sang a duet, "Going Down the Valley," and Mrs.

Louis Shim who sang a solo, "The Old Rugged Cross."

The casket bearers were Andrew Zillinger, Ray Zillinger,

Paul Bruning, John Ebner, Ernest Grau and Harold Beckman.

Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery at Logan. The

Eckhart Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

CELEBRATES

90 BIRTHDAY

Mrs. Anna Zillinger celebrated her 90th birthday,

Saturday evening, January 24 at her home in Logan.

Anna is an alert, active homemaker yet today, doing all her

own cooking, sewing and housework.

She was born seven miles northeast of Logan where

Lorraine Clark now lives and farms. Her parents,

Christopher Fritsch and Josephine Novak, were both

born in Cobb, Wisconsin.

Anna was born January 24, 1886 and her sister

Margaret, December 26, 1889. Margaret, Mrs.

Arthur Beckman, of rural Phillipsburg, is 86 years young.

Anna married Adam Zillinger October 20, 1909.
Besides their three daughters and four sons, Anna has

nineteen grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Her children are Herman and Selma Zillinger and Ida and

Harold Forssberg, all of Phillipsburg; Arnold and Dorothy

Zillinger and Edward and Irene Zillinger, all of Logan; Clara Cox,

West-minister, California; Marie and Don Hulse, Hays; and

Hilda and Harold Grantz, Kirtland, New Mexico.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Zillinger, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Zillinger,

Mr. and Mrs. Don Hulse and her granddaughter,

 Joann Finkbeiner of Phillipsburg helped her celebrate the

occasion complete with homemade ice cream, cake, cookies

and sandwiches. The group took family pictures.

She was born February 27, 1919, in Phillips County to Adam George and Anna E. (Fritsch) Zillinger. She was a retired cook at Hadley Hospital in Hays.

 

She married Floyd Fischli on Oct. 14, 1941. She married Lyman Perkins on Sept. 2, 1952. He died in 1965. She married Donald Hulse in November 1974. He died in 1987.

 

Survivors include a son, Ron Fischli of Wichita Falls, Texas; a stepson, Lloyd Hulse of Benton; a daughter, Georgia Goracke of McPherson; a stepdaughter, Cindy Woerlen of Yates Center; a brother, Arnold Zillinger of Logan; two sisters, Ida Forssberg of Phillipsburg and Clara Cox of

Seal Beach, California; four grandchildren;

three great-grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, 1115, Second, Phillipsburg 67661.

 

Burial will be in Kirwin Cemetery, Kirwin.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to service time Friday at the chapel
