Fred Boethin
Fred Boethin, son of Christopher and Henrietta Boethin, was born December 5, 1859, at Schoenlauke, West Prussia; Germany. In infancy he was made a child of God in Holy Baptism and later, after being duly instructed, was confirmed in the Lutheran faith. His boyhood life was spent in and near his parent’s home. In the spring of 1885, he immigrated to the United States, landing here in the fore part of April. He came west to Lincoln, Nebraska, and spentseveral years in and near Lincoln and Omaha, working at the carpenter trade. Later he came to Phillips County, Kansas, locating on a homestead six miles northeast of Logan, which had been his home until his death. On July 10, 1890, he was united in marriage to Maria B. Miller of Stuttgart, Kansas. To them six children were born, four sons and two daughters. One son, Fred, and their youngest daughter, Martha, preceded him in death. His wife died on March 25, 1942, and since then he lived most of the time with his son, Paul, on the home place. During his spare time he followed the carpenter trade and built many buildings in the territory. He helped organize and was a charter member of St. Peter’s Lutheran church. He helped build the church building and the schoolhouse. He was a faithful member of this church since its organization. Since early summer his health began failing slowly. He was confined to his home since the fore part of December, becoming steadily weaker. About three weeks before his death he became seriously ill and departed this life Wednesday afternoon at about 1:20 o’clock, February 13, 1946, having reached the age of 86 years, 2 months and 8 days. He leaves to mourn his death, four children, and their families, W. L. Boethin, Paul F. Boethin and Mrs. Carl Novak of Logan, Kansas, and Carl M. Boethin of Kansas City, Missouri: five grandsons and one great grandson, besides many other relatives and friends. He was laid to rest in the Lutheran cemetery Friday afternoon, February 15th

Obituary
Maria Barbara Boethin nee Miller was born March 5, 1869 in Archshofen, county of Mergentheim, Württemberg, Germany. She was baptized March 21, 1869 and at the age of fourteen she was confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She came to America April 13, 1890. Here she worked out for a short time and then was united in marriage to Fred Boethin, July 10, 1890. This marriage was blessed with six children, Will, Paul and Sophia, Mrs. Carl Novak, all of Logan, Carl of Parkville, Missouri and two children who preceded their mother in death, Frederich at the age of thirteen and Martha Boethin Schick at the age of twenty four. Mr. and Mrs. Boethin were privileged to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary together on July 10, 1940. The deceased had four brothers and one sister, Leonard Miller of Stuttgart, Fred of Logan, Henry of Buffalo, New York, and John and Sophia still in Germany. These together with her husband, four children and five grandchildren remain to mourn her death. We have lost a good Christian woman. About a year ago she noticed she was afflicted with a disease which turned out to be cancer. From that time on she became weaker but as long as possible carried on the duties of her household. With great effort and pain she attended the communion service yet before Christmas. She bore her sickness with Christian patience and was ready when her master called. She died March 25, 1942 having attained the age of 73 years and 20 days. May the Lord bless us in her memory. Funeral services were held March 28, 1942 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church.
