Obituary ~ Eltiste
Mrs. Sophia Margaret Eltiste, daughter of Henry Grau and Elizabeth nee Bietz, was born September 6, 1884 near Auburn, Nebraska. On October 5, she was received into the Kingdom of God through Holy Baptism. She came to Phillips county, Kansas, with her parents in 1886. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Emmanuel Lutheran church, Stuttgart, Kansas on April 17, 1898. On May 10, 1905, she was united in marriage with Fred Eltiste. To this union two children were born. A son, Ernest, and a daughter, who died in infancy. Mrs. Eltiste suffered from Asthma for over 20 years. She passed away at her farm home December 27, 1948, at 3:15 p.m. at the age of 64 years, 3 months and 21 days. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Fred; her son, Ernest; three brothers; Conrad, Henry and Theodore Grau, all of Phillips county; also two sisters, Mrs. Henry Hesterman of Kensington and Mrs. Henry Badenhoop of Agra; two grandchildren, a number of other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were conducted December 30, 1948, at Emmanuel Lutheran church, Stuttgart, Kansas, with Rev. Herbert J. Schauer officiating. Interment was made in Emmanuel Lutheran cemetery.
