Obituary
Mary Johnson
was born in Iowa, October 17, 1862, and died at her home in Kearney, May
21, 1924. When a girl she united with the Methodist Episcopal church, but
after her marriage, she attended the Lutheran church with her husband,
though never changing her membership.
She was
married at Winterset, Iowa, to Ferdinand Volker, March 2, 1880. To this
union were born three sons and four daughters. They are Martin L., Herbert
H., Arthur H., Alma Ridgeway, Clara Shreve, all of Kearney, and Lottie
Delay of Cushing, Oklahoma, and Ruth Gloden of Omaha, Nebraska.
They spent
the early part of their married life in eastern Nebraska, and in western
Kansas. In 1908 they moved to Kearney where they have made their home
since, her husband died, January 13, 1919.
Her last
illness dated from March 6, and she passed away Wednesday evening, May 21,
at ten minutes past six o'clock. Besides her seven children she leaves to
mourn her death one sister and two brothers, residents of Murray, Iowa.
The funeral
was held at the Bower Funeral Home in charge of Reverend Kirkpatrick, pastor
of the Methodist church.
