Heard Final Call

Minnie Elizabeth Volker, daughter of the late Eilert and Elizabeth Coleman Johnson, was born November 28, 1869 at Murray, Iowa. She came from a family of eight children, all of whom preceded her in death.

February 5, 1890, she was united in marriage to Henry W. Volker, of Humboldt, and to this union one son, Orvin was born.

In 1904, the deceased returned to Murray, Iowa, where she resided until only eight days prior to her passing, when she went to Table Rock to spend the winter with her son and family. Mrs. Volker died Thursday, December 1, at the home of a granddaughter, Mrs. John Kalous, of near Humboldt, at the age of 80 years, and three days. She had been in fairly good health until the time of her passing.

She is survived by her son, Orvin, of Table Rock; five grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, many other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 5, at 1:30 o'clock at the Long Branch church with Rev. H. Bents officiating.

The pallbearers were: Bill Kracke, Fred Gobber, Fred Plager, Elmer Hitzmann, Walter Knipplemeyer and Wilbur Goos. Those in charge of the flowers were: Neva Volker and Virginia Kalous. Interment was in Long Branch church cemetery.

Henry Wilhelm Volker, youngest son of Christian Volker and wife Anna nee Zabel, was born September 2, 1865, at the home of his parents, ten miles northwest of Humboldt Nemaha county, Nebraska.

He was baptized October 27, 1866, receiving his religious training at the St. John's Lutheran church and was confirmed by the Rev. J. H. Dirks on April 10, 1881. He spent his youth with his parents, later becoming a member of the St. James congregation of which he remained a faithful member up to the time of his death. The deceased spent his entire life at the place of his birth, with the exception of a few years which he spent in Johnson in business with his father. About two years ago his health began to fail and gradually grew worse in spite of all medical aid. The past seven weeks he was confined to his bed and passed away Friday, November 12 at one o'clock in the morning at his home. He reached the age of 71 years, 2 months and 10 days.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife; two sons, Orvin and Wife Emma, nee Gobber, Herbert and wife, Louise, nee Boeck; and one daughter, Viola and husband, Albert Plager; eleven grandchildren, one sister, Paulina, Mrs. John Burrow of Elk Creek; four sisters in law; and a host of relatives and friends. One son Freddie preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 15, at St. James Lutheran church, Long Branch, conducted by Rev. H. Brokering. Interment was made in the St. James cemetery.
