Scene of Wedding

Zion Evangelical and Reformed church at Talmage was the scene of

a wedding September 26, at 4:00 o'clock in the afternoon when

Marlene Elizabeth Goering, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Goering

of Johnson, became the bride of Boyd D. Wakelin, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Wakelin of Brock. The double-ring ceremony

was solemnized by Reverend E. Eiben, pastor of the church in the presence of 185 guests. The ceremony took place before the altar appointed with a candle lighted processional aisle of branch candelabra and yellow and  white chrysanthemums and pompoms.

Preceding the ceremony Mrs. Robert Smith of Brock accompanied by

Mrs. Donald Hopp of Talmage sang "Because" and

"The Lord's Prayer".

The candelabra were lighted by Nadine Adcock of Peru, cousin of the

bride, and Judith Jeweli of Nebraska City, niece of the groom. Nadine

and Judith were dressed in light blue formals and wore white and yellow wrist corsages.

The bride who was given away by her father, wore a white traditional

floor length gown fashioned of French hand-clipped Chantilly lace and

nylon tulle over-satin. A strapless lace Basque emphasized an Elizabeth-

on fishu of tulle. The bouffant tulle skirt featured scalloped edge lace

18th century panniers on either side which continued to the back forming

a deep triangle. Completing this ensemble, was a brief scalloped edged

jacket of the lace with long fitted sleeves and buttoning up to the

calla lily collar. Her finger tip length veil of double tiered imported bridal

illusion was held in place by a sweetheart brim of pleated lace and net

with seed pearls intertwined around edge of brim. She carried a

cascade bouquet of white carnations and lily of the valley.

Miss Joyce Goering served her sister as maid of honor. She wore a

floor length gown of ice blue nylon net over satin with alternating rows

of ruffled ribbon and net down the floor length of the skirt. She carried

a bouquet of white and yellow chrysanthemums. Her tiara was of

matching ice blue and lily of the valley. The bridesmaids were Betty Lou

Ast of Humboldt, friend of the bride and Carol Jean Goering, sister

of the bride. They were attired in identical gowns of the floor length

ice blue nylon net over satin, styled as gown of maid of honor with

alternating rows of rolled ribbon and ruffled net of full length of skirt.

Each wore a tiara identical to that of the maid of honor. They carried

cascade bouquets of white and yellow chrysanthemums.

Daryl Majors of Brock served the groom as best man. The ushers were

Jim Boellstorff of Johnson and Arnold Gobber of Elk Creek. The men

in the bridal party wore business suits and white carnation boutonnieres.

The Bride's mother and the groom's mother chose Navy blue dresses

and navy accessories with white carnation corsages.

Immediately after the ceremony a reception was held in the parlors of

the church for 185 guests. The decoration quiors consisted of blue,

white  and a bit of yellow. Centering the serving table was a white

3-tiered wedding cake topped with a miniature bride and groom,

which was baked by Clemma Thomas of Brock. Marilyn Whitwell of

Nemaha cut the wedding cake. Mrs. Betty J. Bohling, Evelyn Gobber,

Genene Hawley, Joyce Eiben and Melva Shroyer were in charge of the

serving. The guest book was in charge of Miss Doris Piper, Nora Todler,

Muriel Rieke, Betty Bliere, Edith Gobber, Joan Ast and Kristen Renken took charge of the gifts.

For their weeks wedding trip to Minnesota, the bride chose a navy blue

knit dress with navy and white accessories.

On their return they will reside on a farm near Brock.

Mrs. Wakelin is a graduate of Brock High School in 1952. She

attended Peru State Teachers College three summers and has taught

school the past three years in Nemaha county. Presently she is teaching

at District 24, of Nemaha county.
