Hilda Barbara Augusta Bohling Adcock was born in Auburn,

Nebraska on July 3, 1914 to Fred and Elizabeth (Eltiste) Bohling. She was the third of four daughters born to this family. She received her elementary schooling at District 21, Linden County School near her parent’s farm and attended high school for three years in Johnson, Nebraska then transferred to Auburn High School for her senior year and graduated with the class of 1932. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s (Hickory Grove) Lutheran Church. Catechism and services were conducted in German at that time.
Hilda met Elmer Adcock, the love of her life, at a neighborhood dance. They were married in St. Joseph, Missouri on July 2, 1935 and honeymooned in Topeka, Kansas. They were called home the next day because Elmer’s brother had been killed in a freak accident at a baseball game.
To this union, one son and three daughters were born. Elmer and Hilda lived in and around Nemaha County for nearly twenty years. They made their home in Milford, Nebraska in 1958 and Hilda baby-sat and rented rooms to Tech School students while Elmer supervised school bus transportation. In 1968, Elmer became school transportation supervisor at Farragut, Iowa, and they lived there together until Elmer passed away in 2004. They were members of the United Methodist Church in Farragut, and attending church was the only activity Hilda continued alone.
Hilda loved her family. She baby-sat for all of her grandchildren at one time or another, and in later years, enjoyed attending their concerts and activities. She always encouraged her children and grandchildren to do their best and she loved to see them excel. She cut clippings from the newspapers to send them with advice or items of interest. In her later years, she especially enjoyed having two sets of twins in the family. Hilda enjoyed reading and growing things. She and Elmer could grow anything from houseplants to cherry trees. With Elmer, Hilda enjoyed camping and traveling. Her family was her life and she enjoyed visiting all of her children.
Hilda is survived by her son Marvin and wife Jackie of Shenandoah, Iowa, daughter Nadine Fahrlander and her husband Phil of Minden, Nebraska, daughter Linda Elze and husband Michael of Culpepper, Virginia, daughter Barbara Meier and her husband Kevin of Indianola, Iowa; ten grandchildren, Don Adcock, Dean Adcock and wife Chris, Eric Fahrlander and wife Julie, Jeff Fahrlander and wife Lisa, Pat Elze, Tim Elze, Mark Meier, Jake Meier, Nick Meier and Haleigh Meier; eight great grandchildren, Emily Oleson and her husband Matt, Steven Adcock, Stefan Fahrlander, Rae Fahrlander, Emma Fahrlander, Jacob Fahrlander, Olivia Fahrlander, and Hannah Fahrlander; two great-great grandchildren, Emma and Sophia Oleson; along with many other relatives and friends.
At 94, Hilda was the last of her generation in this family. She lived alone in Farragut after the death of her husband, and after a pacemaker was placed in May, she lived in a care center. In death she is reunited at last with her dearest friend and love. Elmer and Hilda were a loving example to all couples.
