FRED H. ROHRS

PASSED AWAY LAST SUNDAY

Died At His Home in Peru After a Lingering Illness and Death Has
Thus Removed The Man Who Had Been Prominent in Public Affairs

For Many years Fred Rohrs, a former sheriff of Nemaha

county, and one of its best known citizens, passed away

at his home in Peru last Sunday at the age of

65 years, 3 months and 17 days. Mr. Rohrs had been
in failing health for a long time, and while his death was not

unexpected, the news of his passing brought deep regret

to many and prompted the expression of sincere

sympathy for the members of his family.

After having served two terms as deputy sheriff with the late

Abe Lawrence, Mr. Rohrs was elected sheriff in November, 1905,

and served two terms. He made a most efficient officer, and

discharged his duties with distinct credit and in a fearless

and impartial manner. He had also severed as chief of police in Auburn.

Mr. Rohrs was always an ardent republican  and astute politician and was,

for many yeas a power in the councils of the party.

He was a man of strong personality and one who made
friends and retained them because he was

dependable and trustworthy.

Frederick Henry Rohrs was born November 6, 1865

at Napoleon, Ohio. He came to Nemaha County when he

was a young man and in 1883 was united in marriage to

Miss Ninnie (Kirlin), and this union was blessed with

five children, one dying in infancy.

In 1896, the wife and mother was summoned by death, and on
February 2, 1902, he was married to Miss Perle Minor of Auburn

and they became the parents of seven children.

Mr. Rohrs was confirmed in the Lutheran church in childhood and
remained in that faith until later in life when he transferred his
membership to the Avenue Methodist Episcopal church in Auburn.

He was an excellent singer and in that capacity his services were
given freely to the church. As a member of the choir he helped
make services more worshipful and helpful for all. He loved
music and delighted in giving of his talent to the help of others.

Those surviving are his wife, Mrs. Perle Rohrs, two sisters
,
Mrs. William Carstens, Rhodes. Michigan;

Mrs. Joe Thomas, Kimball, South Dakota; one brother,

John Rohrs White Lake, South Dakota, and his children:

at the Avenue Methodist Episcopal church in Auburn conducted by

Henderson of Peru. Many friends gathered to pay their last
