Obituary

Kathrena Torbeck

Kathrena Torbeck, daughter of Tamme and Hilka Norbrock,

was born in Benton precinct, Nemaha county, May 6, 1888.

She was baptized December 7, 1888 by Rev. J. H. Dirks, pastor of the St. John's Lutheran church. On Palm Sunday, April 5, 1903, she was confirmed at the Stone church by Reverend Dirks.

On February 18, 1909, she was united in marriage to

Frederick W. Torbeck and to this union there were born

four daughters, Eveline, Ora, Alice and Opal. Practically all of her married life was spent on the farm near Johnson, with the exception

of the years from 1927 to 1931 when she lived in Johnson.

On Sunday, February 18, which was the 36th anniversary of their wedding, she was taken to St. Joseph's hospital in Omaha,

where she underwent a major operation. On Saturday, February 24, she was seized with a severe heart attack and passed away at

11 a.m. at the age of 56 years, nine months and 18 days.

Those remaining to mourn her loss are: her husband, her daughters, Eveline and Mrs. Kiel Eltiste, Los Angeles, Alice and

Mrs. Dale Eltiste of Vesta; her brother, John George Herman and Henry Nordbrock, her sisters, Mrs. Herman Remmers Sr.,

and grandson, Kiel Ora Eltiste; her aunts, Mrs. O. O. Bunger and

Mrs. Olke Bunger of Hildreth, besides other relatives and a host of friends. Two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

Mrs. Torbeck was a loyal church worker. She was a lover of children and took into their home a nephew, three years of age,

Melvin Torbeck, caring for him in his early years, following the

death of the little fellow's mother. Her selfishness was exemplified in many ways in her daily life, which she devoted to that of others whenever the occasion arose.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 28, at

2:00 p. m. at the St. John's Lutheran church with

Rev. G. K. Wiencke officiating. St. John's choir sang

and a special number was sung by the girls quartet.

Pallbearers were: Floyd Bohlken, Herbert Gerdes, Lemuel Hull,

Alfred Rademacher, George Gerdes, Orville Bruggeman. Those in charge of the flowers: Mrs. Walter Michel, Mrs. Kenton Eltiste and Miss Opal Hafermann.

Interment was made at St. John's cemetery with Armstrong-May Funeral Home in charge of funeral arrangements.
