VERNON ELTISTE HOLDREGE
Vernon H. Eltiste, 92 of Holdrege, formerly of Lexington, died Monday, May 29, 2006, at Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 1, at Parkview Baptist Church in Lexington with Pastor A. L. Cole officiating. Burial will be in the Sumner Cemetery at Sumner. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington, which is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include his sons, Howard (Kitty) Eltiste of Holdrege, and John (Kathy) Eltiste of Omaha; four grandchildren, Michelle Eltiste-Smith (Mark) of Lehi, Utah, Marie (Joel) Rodriguez of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Michael (Kim) Eltiste of Weatherford, Texas, and Christopher Eltiste of Omaha; great-grandchildren, Allison, Stephanie and Camille Smith, Tyler, Alyssa, Maryssa and Christina Rodriguez, and Christian and Brock Eltiste, his stepmother; Annie Eltiste of Lexington. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alma in 1993; son, Vernon; three brothers, Gordon, Leonard and Dale; and one sister; Mary. Vernon was born May 26, 1914, at Auburn, to Paul and Edna (Rohrs) Eltiste. Vernon lived in Auburn until 1927, when the family moved to the Overton/Lexington area. He graduated from Overton High School with the class of 1932. On February 5, 1941, he married Alma Kaiser of Phillipsburg, Kansas. Three sons were born to this union: Howard, John and Vernon. Vernon died at childbirth. Vernon enjoyed playing cards with his "Cleveland Street neighbors," being with his family and farming and ranching. He had a wonderful sense of humor. He was a member of Fairhaven Baptist Church, the Lexington Cosmo Club and Triple F Club at Fairhaven Baptist Church. Memorials are suggested to the Lexington Volunteer Fire Department or the Donor's choice.
