Dies In Tragic Accident
Ellsworth Kaiser, 48, Was the tragic victim of an accidental gunshot wound Wednesday morning while working in the oil field southwest of Phillipsburg as a pumper. Kaiser was making the rounds of the wells, and when he failed to return at the proper time, Delbert Bruning, who works with him, started out to see if there had been unexpected trouble around one of the rigs. He found Kaiser's body near the fence line on John Vandewege place, with a discharged shotgun lying nearby.
The two men had seen a coyote in the vicinity a number of times, and Kaiser had decided to try to stop it from bothering farmers' chickens in the area. It is believed that the gun was discharged as Kaiser went through the fence.
The Kaiser family has long been highly regarded in the Stuttgart vicinity, where Ellsworth grew to manhood.
After farming for a time, he became an oil well pumper in that area . Later he returned to the farm, but moved to Phillipsburg about three years ago after selling out, and went to work for Petroleum Management. Inc., as a pumper.
He was a very fine citizen, well known and highly respected in Phillipsburg and in the Stuttgart area. His many friends will join us in extending sincere sympathy to the survivors. They include: Mrs. Kaiser, a son Wyman who is a student at Pittsburg State College, a daughter, Mrs. Jerry Keesee, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kaiser and a brother Ludwig. Funeral arrangements had not been made at press time.
