Rosa Hopson

A funeral for Rosa (Kaiser) Hopson, 80, Minatare, who died June 18 was held Tuesday in Joliffe Funeral Home with the Reverend Don Notz officiating and burial in East Lawn Cemetery.

She was born June 17, 1908 in Phillipsburg, Kansas. She grew up and received her early education at the Iowan Union School near Phillipsburg. She married Avery Hopson in 1937 in Phillipsburg. They moved to the Minatare area that same year where they farmed until retirement. She was a member of the Red Willow Sunday School.

Survivors include her son, Jack of Butler, Alaska; sisters, Leona Gerdes of Johnson and Irene Zillinger of Phillipsburg and brothers Arnold Kaiser of Long Island, Kansas and Richard and August Kaiser, both of Phillipsburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Funeral Saturday

Avery S. Hopson, 72, of Minatare died in a Scottsbluff hospital early Thursday morning.

Funeral services were held Saturday in the Dugan Funeral Chapel with the Reverend Donovan Notz officiating. Burial was in the East Lawn Cemetery in Minatare.

He is survived by his widow; one son, Rev. Jack Hopson of Butler, Alabama, and one sister, Mrs. Mary Steele of Scottsbluff.

Three sisters preceded him in death.

He was born October 7, 1898, in Wauneta, Nebraska, coming to Gering as a child and later moving to Phillipsburg, Kansas.

On May 9, 1937, he married Rosa Kaiser in Phillipsburg. They later moved to the Nine Mile community near Minatare and farmed in the area until his death.
