Died Suddenly

At Johnson Home

John Jacob Hahn Was

Called By Death

Summons Came Almost Without Warning to Long-Time

Resident of that Community and News of Death Was

Shock to Many Friends - In Apparent Good Health.

John Jacob Hahn passed away at his home in Johnson about

5:15 o'clock Monday afternoon. Death came almost without warning

and therefore the news of his passing came as a great shock to his many

friends throughout that community. He was in apparent good health,

had gone about his usual occupations during the day and there was

nothing to indicate that the end of his life was near at hand. The life which

thus ended had been a useful life which had been shaped to the highest

standards of manhood and citizenship. Mr. Hahn was a man whose

influence was always exerted in behalf of the things that are worth while

and for the betterment of his fellow men. He will be missed by those with whom he had been associated for many years.

John Jacob Hahn was the only son of Henry Hahn and his wife, Katharina,

nee Lehn. He was born July 11, 1864, at Hollowayville, Illinois, and was

baptized June 4, 1865. In the spring of 1871 the family came to Nebraska and located on a farm near the present site of the town of Johnson.

Here he developed into a strong and healthy young man and followed the

occupation of his father, that of farming. On January 15, 1889, he was

confirmed in the Lutheran church. The years of his youth were spent at the

home of his parents until December 9, 1886, when he was married to

Miss Maria Schmidt. Ten children were born to this union, nine of whom

are living. One son, Henry, preceded his father into eternity. Mr. Hahn

was diligent in the performance of his every duty, was a loving

husband and father and one could hardly have wished for a better

friend and neighbor.

After having spent thirty-seven years of hard work on the farm, he and his

wife and their two children, Emma and Walter, moved to Johnson in

1923. There they lived in their quiet, peaceful home until the Lord

required his soul.

His death is deeply mourned by his wife, Mrs. Maria Hahn, and by his

children, Mrs. Kate Weible, Oshkosh; Mrs. Mary Hahn, William and Emma

of Johnson; Herman of Dallas, Texas; Mrs. Anna Neidenreip of Brock;

Frank and Dick of Johnson, and Walter of Tecumseh.

He is also survived by three sons-in-law and five daughters-in-law and

by his brothers, Fred, Henry, George and Charley, and by his

sisters, Mrs. Katharina Eltiste, Mrs. Maria Ritter, Mrs. Emma Schmidt

and Mrs. Elizabeth Collman. Three sisters, Wilhelmina Hahn, Mrs. Christian

Lehn and Mrs. Barbara Schoene, preceded him in death. These relatives

have the sincere sympathy of the many friends of the family who

realize the sense of sorrow that has come to them. At the time of his

passing Mr. Hahn had reached the age of 66 years and 10 months.

Short funeral services were held at the family home at 1:30 o'clock

Thursday afternoon, followed by services at Zion Lutheran church at

2 o'clock. These services were conducted by Rev. Riensche, and were

largely attended by friends of the family. Following the services

interment was made in the Johnson cemetery.
