Former Johnson Resident is Called

Mrs. Adella Torbeck Passed Away At Deshler After Long Illness and Untimely Death is Mourned by Many Nemaha County Friends

Adelia Margaretha Torbeck, nee Schleufer, daughter of John and

Sophie Schleufer, was born June 10, 1890 at Johnson, and

departed this life on her birthday, Friday morning, June 10, at the

age of 48 years.

She was baptized in early infancy by her pastor, Reverend J. H.

Dirks, and she enjoyed the religious training of a German parochial

school. She was confirmed by the same pastor March 27, 1904,

at Saint John's Lutheran church in Benton precinct.

In 1907 she moved with her parents to Deshler, where the
Zion Lutheran congregation became her church home. She was

united in marriage to John Torbeck May 29, 1910. Their home

was blessed with four children.

Her health began to fail about two years ago. Treatment at

various places was resorted to, but relief was only temporary and

efforts to restore her to health proved futile. She bore her

sufferings patiently until the end. She was preceded in death

by her father in 1928, her daughter, Helen, in 1931, and by

her husband in February of this year.

Surviving to mourn her passing are her children, Edwin and

wife, and Leona, all of Byron; one sister, Mrs. Mary Weers of

Hebron; seven brothers; John Schleufer, Lincoln; George

Schleufer, Milwaukee, Oregon; Henry Schleufer, Nora;

 Otto and Martin Schleufer, Byron,

and Fred and Edward Schleufer, Deshler.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the home

and Zion Lutheran church at Deshler and were conducted by

pastor, Reverend William Feller. Appropriate words of

consolation were based on Matthew 11:28 in German and

Palms 23:4 in English. Interment was made in the church cemetery.

Those from Nemaha county who attended the funeral were:

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Torbeck, Ora and Opal, Mr. and Mrs.

Herman Oestmann and Eileen, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Torbeck,

Mr. and Mrs. Vern Moody, Mrs. Ervin Oestmann, Mr. and Mrs.
