Obituary ~ Vogel
Henry Vogel, the son of John Vogel and his wife, Elizabeth nee Scholler, was born on February 14, 1833, in Phillips county, Kansas. On March 11, 1883, the father arms of God were opened to him in Holy Baptism and on April 19, 1898, he was confirmed in the Lutheran church of Stuttgart where he remained a life-long member. He grew to manhood on his parents farm and on July 27, 1910, he was united in the bonds of Holy Matrimony with Emma Eltiste. Their union was blessed with two daughters and one son. Our gracious God permitted them to enjoy over 50 years of married life. They made their home on a farm in Phillipsburg township until September of 1963. When Mr. Vogel became ill, they made their home with Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Preuss and them with Chris Eltiste. Death came early on the morning of June 17, 1964, in Stuttgart at the age of 81 years, 4 months and 3 days. Mr. Vogel was preceded in death by his parents, one son, four brothers and one sister. The survivors include: his wife, Emma: two daughters, Mrs. Leonard Preuss of Stuttgart and Mrs. Ernest Grau of Phillipsburg: two brothers, John H. Vogel and Leonard Vogel, both of Phillipsburg: two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Kistner of Stuttgart and Mrs. Martha Veeh of Santa Ana, California. There are six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. We commend the mourners to the loving care of the Savior who has promised, "Because I live, you shall live also."
