JOHN W. MILLER

John William Miller died at his home at Phillipsburg, Kansas, Sunday, March 6, 1932, aged 53 years, 11 months and 6 days.

John W. Miller, a son of the late Michael Miller and his wife, Katharina of Stuttgart, was born March 31, 1878. He was baptized and confirmed in the Emmanuel Lutheran church in Stuttgart.

October 30, 1908, John Miller was married to Christina Kaiser. This marriage was of short duration. In April 1911, he lost his wife in death.

Two years later, June 1913, the deceased was married a second time to Amelia Pralle, who survives her husband. Having no children of their own, Mr. and Mrs. Miller adopted Dolores, a niece of Mrs. Miller, who had lost her mother.

Most of his life time was spent in the Stuttgart community. About 2 years he lived at Colorado. About six years ago, he quit farming and moved to Phillipsburg, working for the Sinclair Oil Company. In March 1931, Mr. Miller underwent an operation for cancer at a Concordia hospital. He returned, improving nicely and had so far recovered that he undertook once more to drive his oil truck late last summer. Three months ago he suffered a relapse. At first he seemed to rally again, but the last four weeks showed plainly that his days were numbered. The last week of his life he was bedfast. Mr. Miller passed away last Sunday, March 6 at 6 o’clock in the afternoon.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his widow, Mrs. Amelia Miller, and daughter, Dolores, four brothers, Edward of Phillipsburg; George, Michael and Charles of Stuttgart; five sisters, Mrs. Margaret Merklein of Phillipsburg; Mrs. Anna Vogel of Stuttgart; Mrs. Barbara Dettmer of Kensington; Mrs. Frieda Miller of Phillipsburg and Mrs. Clara Berthoff of Fairbury, with their families and many other relatives and friends.

Burial was made at the cemetery of Emmanuel Lutheran church at Stuttgart, Tuesday, March 8, the Rev. F. Krauss, pastor officiating.
